February 14, 2010: Happy Valentine's Day ... memories!
JANUARY 1, 2010 - HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our
Robert L. Scott Fan Club Association members!!
Even though Scotty was my favorite hero, I never really came out and told him that. He didn't really like people making a big fuss over him even though he was a big deal to us all. I met Scotty during his really active time of Fund Raisers for the Museum. I was the Sales Manager for Eddie Wiggins Ford Lincoln Mercury who was Chairman of the board at the Museum so it put me in a position to help Scotty on some of the fundraisers. This was the fastest way to gain his friendship because he had such a love for this Museum. I was at a lot of functions that he attended and supported. It was special to be in the same room and watch him work through the crowd and watch all heads turn to watch him walk through. He would always stop and visit with anyone that had a question or wanted to speak to him.
My favorite story to tell about General Scott was the day that he sat in my office waiting for his Lincoln Mark VIII to be serviced, as we chatted and I was digging to hear a war story, I told Scotty that my wish was to have a rare photo of him standing by one of his war ships. After chatting for a while, He asked if he could borrow a car while they finished the service on his Lincoln. So I went out and started up a new Town Car and walked him to it. I said to him" Take your time and I will be sure that your car is ready when You return. He was gone for about an hour and walked back into my office with his arms full of rolled up prints of all sizes and let them roll out on my desk. They were all professional photos and Paintings of him taken by different warships in locations all over the world.I asked him if I got to choose the one that I wanted and he said "No, Benny, they all are yours to keep." Needless to say, these prints are among my most cherished treasures today.
I am enclosing a picture of the inside front cover of GOD IS MY CO PILOT which is one that he gave me from the original prints and signed it on my 50th birthday. What a birthday gift!!! The other picture is one of Scotty,Mike Wallace, and myself hanging around the Museum one day after lunch.

I read God is my Co-pilot when I was around 15 years old and fell in love with the WWII generation and its hero's. I find that I look back to the generation I grew up with (WWII) and get comfort in reflecting on their courage, values & integrity. The world's values today lack these things for the most part so that is why "Scotty" means so much to me. I am building a model of his P-40 and need help with the paint colors. From what I have been able to find on various websites the number on the tail was painted out but-is this correct? (The photo on your website shows it). I figured that if anyone knows it would be you. Do you have a close up of the Japanese flags on the side of his ship? How many should be there? My father-in-law's best friend shot down the last Jap airplane just before the war was over. He passed away before I found this out. I hate the fact that all them are leaving us! What history and knowledge they will take with them.
Thanks, Miles
I exchanged letters with General Scott just before I was called to Active Duty. He mentioned to stop by if I ever got out west. Long story (a little shorter) left from Fort Belvior, VA in early 1982, heading for new post at Sierra Depot, California. Was authorized 10 days travel, drove like a bat (made it in 6 days) to make sure I had plenty of time to ... See Moredetour to AZ. I visited him at his home and got to spend most of the day. Later I invited him to visit me at Sierra. He was my overnight guest and was quartered at the VIP suite at the BOQ. Gave him tour of depot, meeting with my CO, we had wonderful time. I arranged gifts for him, we gave him 20mm Shell and Flying Tigers golf club. Before he even knew about that, when he first arrived he gave me several autographed books and a lithograph of himself in a combat action, that just happened to be 40th anniversary of the combat action depicted. What a wonderful couple of days that was...

Hello Fan Club Members from around the World!
We can't help but remember General Scott everyday, but today perhaps a little more so.
Thinking of our Hero this time of year, reminds us that just around the corner (April 16) is his annual birthday golf tournament - now a Memorial Golf Tournament and fund raiser for the Museum of Aviation. "The museum gave me a purpose in life"General Scott always said with a smile.
On March 7th you can visit this very webpage for the Fan Club's participation in the fundraiser. 10 of General Scott's books will be up for auction, along with 1 gorgeous 18x24 print of Old Exterminator. 4 books and the print are autographed by General Scott.
Submit your bids by using the form provided. The highest bidder wins. In case of a tie - the earliest date/time of the bid will be the winner.
